Charging stations for electric cars
EV Charging Stations
A portable charger from an outlet is good for a country house or a trip. But when you charge your car every day, you want something solid and fast. Stationary. An EV charging station is exactly that: a device that mounts on the wall or stands on a pedestal and charges the car noticeably faster than the "traveler" in the trunk. Plug it in at night — the battery is full in the morning, no fuss.
There are more electric cars now — it's no longer exotic, but a regular car in the neighbor's yard. And along with them, the demand for proper infrastructure is growing. Businesses are installing stations near malls and hotels, people — in their own garages. Buying an EV charging station in Ukraine today is as commonplace as hanging a water heater used to be. The only question is which station you need.
Types of Charging Stations
Let's break down the classes, because the difference is colossal — both in speed and in price.
- Home stations (Wallbox). Home EV charging stations are the most popular option for a private garage or parking space. The power is usually 7–22 kW, charging the car in a few hours. Quiet, compact, often with a timer and a smartphone app — to catch the cheaper night tariff. For the daily charging of one or two cars — it's ideal.
- Fast stations (DC, direct current). Now this is a different league. Fast EV charging stations work on direct current and drive the battery up to 80% in a rough 30–40 minutes. While you drink your coffee — the car is almost ready. Buying fast EV charging stations makes sense where cars need to be charged "on the run": fleets, taxis, highways. Fast EV charging stations are worth buying where time is money: every saved hour of charging works for you. After all, for businesses, EV chargers are not just about comfort, but about the throughput of the location.
- Commercial stations. For business — gas stations, parking lots, hotels, shopping centers. Often with multiple ports, a payment system, accounting, and cloud monitoring. Commercial EV charging stations have a higher price, but they are an earning tool: people pay for the charge, the station pays for itself. Here, it's not about comfort, but economics.
- Stations with multiple connectors. Charge two or three cars simultaneously. Convenient for a family with several EVs or for a small parking lot. One device — multiple cars.
How to Choose a Charging Station for a Car
A few things you really should look at.
- Power and current type. AC (alternating) — for home, up to 22 kW. DC (direct) — fast stations, tens and hundreds of kW. More power means a faster charge, but the requirements for the power grid are more serious. You often can't do without an electrician here.
- Compatibility with your power grid. Single-phase (220 V) or three-phase (380 V)? What can your line and main breaker handle? There's no point in buying 22 kW if the wiring will pull a maximum of 7. This is the most common and annoying mistake.
- Connector type. Type 2 is the European standard for AC, CCS Combo and CHAdeMO are for fast DC. Check what your car has, otherwise, the station and the car simply won't connect.
- Protection and water resistance class. If the station will be outdoors, it needs serious protection against moisture, dust, and voltage drops. The device works with high currents in the rain and snow, so skimping here is completely inappropriate.
- "Smart" features. Energy consumption accounting, app control, dynamic load balancing, RFID cards for commerce. For home — a pleasant bonus, for business — a necessity.
I'll be honest: people underestimate a home station until they live with one for a month. And then they wonder how they ever tolerated charging from an extension cord. An EV charging station is the upgrade you never want to go back from.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does a charging station differ from a portable charger?
A station is stationary, more powerful, and faster. It mounts on a wall or pedestal and charges the car noticeably faster than a "traveler" from the trunk. A portable one wins in mobility, a station in speed and everyday convenience. For home, where you charge every night, a station is more comfortable.
What station power should I choose for home?
Most often 7–11 kW is the optimum for a private garage. More, like 22 kW, makes sense only if your wiring can handle it and the car can accept that much. There's no point in overpaying for power that the line simply won't deliver. It's worth consulting an electrician or us here.
Does a commercial charging station pay off?
If there's a flow of cars — yes. People pay for the charge, the station gradually pays for itself. Commercial EV charging stations have a higher price, but it's an earning tool, not an expense. For a hotel, mall, or parking lot, it's a completely viable business story.
