Duplex Units
Duplex modules for laser printers
Duplex printing roughly halves paper consumption. At a typical office load of 3,000–5,000 pages per month the savings add up. It is not only money: fewer cases in the storeroom, less waste, faster turnaround on long documents.
How duplexing works
The engine prints side one, parks the sheet in an inversion path, flips it mechanically, and pulls it back in for side two. The workflow is automatic — the operator just enables “two-sided” in the driver.
- Automatic duplex. No babysitting the job — ideal for office queues.
- Manual duplex. The printer finishes side one, stacks the sheets, and you reload them for side two. Fine for budget devices or rare duplex jobs.
When you need an add-on duplex module
Not every SKU ships duplex-ready. Some HP LaserJet, Canon i-Sensys, Kyocera ECOSYS, and Brother HL families sell the duplex path as a field-installable option.
Teams also buy modules to replace a failed factory unit — worn drive gears and sensors are the usual suspects. A duplex module always maps to a specific printer model and part number.
OEM vs compatible
- OEM. Perfect mechanical fit, vendor warranty, firmware stays aligned.
- Compatible. Solid for routine workloads; duplex hardware in this tier is noticeably cheaper.
