WD Purple 3.5" 8000 GB Serial

Western Digital WD Purple WD84PURZ-SS is an 8TB hard drive for adding storage to video surveillance systems. Its 3.5-inch form factor and SATA 6 Gb/s interface suit compatible desktop-style recorders and storage enclosures.

The drive uses CMR recording. WD designed the Purple range for continuous surveillance recording, and its AllFrame technology is intended to help reduce dropped video frames and improve recording and playback.

WD lists support for up to 64 HD cameras and systems with up to 16 drive bays. These figures describe the drive’s surveillance-system capabilities; the actual system configuration depends on the recorder and the wider setup.
